My topic is Medicine. This topic is so broad, so and want to focus on studying caffein and how it affects the body.

I choose caffein because I say many people in th U.S drink coffee everyday and caffein is the main part of coffee.

The first encyclopedia I read about Caffein is "
Magrill's medical guide" vol 1, 3rd edition in 2005. This general encyclopedia gives me the background informations of Caffein. It difines that caffein is a chemical substance found in foods and some drinks such as coffee, chocolate, etc. Many people use caffein like a chemical substance that helps them to have more energetic and wake up in the morning.

In other hand, caffeine aloso brings to human's health many problems such as the insomnia, nervouness, and decreasing the coordination.

The name of my subject encyclopedia is "
The Gale Encyclopedia of Alternative Medicine" published in 2000, vol 1. This book gives me more informations about my topic.
_ The definition has more details : Caffeine rouses the central nervous system(CNS).
We can find it in coffee, Kola seed kernels or nuts easily. We can also find it in almost tablet or capsule such as: prescription pain relievers, medicines for migraine headaches and antihistamines.
_General use:Caffeine has a lot of effects such as: make people more alert, less drowsy and improves coordination. Caffeine also make medicine work more quickly and effectively. It is used to treat other conditions, comprising breathing problems in newborns and in young babies after surgery.
_Precautions:Person who use a lot of caffeine for a long time can build up a tolerance on it, they must use more and more caffeine to get the same effect. If they stop using caffeine suddenly, some problem may appear, such as headache, fatigue, yawing, vomiting, runny nose, etc. Those problem may appear for 1 week. Do not use caffeine and alcohol at the same time. The mix between caffeine and alcohol can lead to an upset stomach, nausea and vomiting. If you have some allergies to foods, dyes, preservatives or to compounds aminophylline, dyphylline, oxtriphylline, etc.., let check it first with physician before using caffeine. Sometimes, when a person who had an unusal reaction to caffeine, they need to check with a physician before using it again.
_Pregnacy:Caffeine also has some problems with pregnant, it can pass woman's body into the developing embryo. It may cause miscarriage or problems with the baby's heart rhythm. So, when woman have to be pregnant, they should check with physician before using caffeine. Caffeine can pass into breast milk and can affect the nursing baby. Baby can be irritable or have trouble sleeping when their mother use 600mg or more of caffeine a day.
_Other medical conditions:Caffeine also cause some effects with these medical conditions such as: peptic ulcer, high blood pressure, liver disease, trouble sleeping, anxiety, etc...Some side effects may appear when you use higher than recommended doses, it can cause excitement, confusion, a sensation of lighting flashing before the eyes, ringing in the ears, muscle twitches rapid heartbeat, convulsions, etc...
Caffeine has a lot of effects and it stimulates the nervous system, so anyone taking other central nervous system stimulants or people who want to use caffeine should be careful before using caffeine.
COMPARATION:The "Magrill's medical guide" gives me a lot of informations about caffein but they are too general.
